Last weekend, the ThrottleNet team headed to Kansas City to do something a little different — trading keyboards for golf carts and setting up a tent on the course for the Sheffield Place Annual Golf Tournament. We sponsored a hole at this year’s event, offering snacks, goodies, and plenty of good conversation with the golfers who came through.
It was a great day on the course, but more importantly, it was an opportunity to show up for an organization that’s doing meaningful work in the Kansas City community — and one that happens to be a valued ThrottleNet client.
About Sheffield Place: 30+ Years of Transforming Lives
Sheffield Place has been a lifeline for some of Kansas City’s most vulnerable families since February 1991, when it opened its doors as a direct response to the growing population of homeless mothers and their children in the area. More than three decades later, that mission hasn’t wavered.
The organization serves highly traumatized homeless mothers facing multiple barriers to self-sufficiency — including mental health and addiction challenges, domestic violence backgrounds, low educational attainment, and felony convictions. These are families who need more than just a roof over their heads. They need comprehensive, integrated support to rebuild their lives from the ground up.
Since opening, Sheffield Place has helped more than 1,600 families make the difficult journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. That’s an extraordinary legacy.
A Holistic Approach to Breaking the Cycle
What sets Sheffield Place apart is the depth and integration of their programming. They don’t just offer a single service — they wrap families in a full continuum of support that addresses every dimension of recovery and stability:
• Residential Housing — Safe, stable housing is the foundation everything else is built on.
• Residential Clinical Services — Intensive on-site mental health and addiction recovery services for mothers and children.
• Aftercare & Outpatient Clinical Services — Support continues well beyond the residential phase, ensuring families don’t fall through the cracks during the transition to independence.
• Permanent Housing Services — Sheffield Place owns and operates 9 units of permanent housing in the neighborhood. Families pay adjusted rent and can remain in these homes as long as they choose, with ongoing case management and supportive services provided free of charge.
Employment and life skills training, case management, and family-focused therapy round out the programming for mothers. And for the children — who are so often the overlooked members of these families — Sheffield Place runs Project Hope, a dedicated children’s program that provides case management and therapy to help kids heal from trauma through education, self-discovery, and family support.

ThrottleNet has had the privilege of serving Sheffield Place as a managed IT client, and days like the golf tournament serve as a good reminder of why that relationship matters to us. When we help Sheffield Place keep their technology running smoothly and securely, we’re playing a small role in supporting an operation where reliability genuinely matters — case managers, clinicians, and housing coordinators depend on their systems every single day to serve families in crisis.
